laughter filled the air as bit kids ran around the Old Guiob Church Ruins while pushing their toy wheels with a wooden stick. It was a delightful, charming sound. It reminded me of my own youth days when little toys as well as games were whatever that mattered. It reminded me of the past. however this location has a past of its own. A fierce one.

Mount Vulcan as well as the town of Cotta Bato

Sometimes called the Old Church Ruins, the Guiob Church Ruins was what was left from the old church of the island’s Spanish age funding called Cotta Bato. It was built in the 16th century however it satisfied its damage a century later. On may 13, 1871, the capital’s peace was rattled by an intense trembling of the ground brought about by the rumbling of a close-by volcano, Mt. Vulcan. The earthquake shook the town mercilessly up until homes as well as other structures were down to rubble. however that wasn’t the end of it. That evening, Mt. Vulcan unleashed its most devastating power when it erupted as well as destroyed what was left of the town.

Located in Brgy. Bonbon in Catarman, the Old Guiob Church Ruins was one of the structures that stayed standing after the disastrous eruption. Although the church has lost its roof, its sturdy walls as well as columns still stand today — a massive, lovely physical reminder of an almost apocalyptic past; o cicatrice.

From the road, it appeared like a simple ancient wall, like a fortress. surrounded by towering trees as well as covered by moss, the walls continued to provide a vivid photo of exactly how the old church appeared like as well as exactly how huge it was. As soon as we stepped into its premises, however, we were greeted by a newer little chapel, where residents go to for prayer as well as mass. The chapel was bare, lacking color, as well as did not have much inside. The narrow area between it as well as the right wall serves as a pathway to an opening that leads to more surviving structures of the church complex.

Trees were lined up parallel to a series of tough columns that seemed to guide our eyes to the base of the bell tower. little plants crowned the top of the ruins of the tower. As I walked towards it, I spotted a huge salamander which rushed as much as a tree. as well poor I was not able to take a photo of it. Still, it made me feel much better that other life develops have made it its home.

On the other end of the historical site was what utilized to be the Convent. however even this was not spared by the catastrophe. only the walls were left. We went into the structure as well as discovered a thick bush, flourishing inside.

Beside the convent stood an enormous, towering tree, one of the biggest I’d seen in my life. This century-old tree survived the tremors as well as the eruption. I made sure that I had a picture of me taken with the tree just to show just exactly how large this tree truly is. When I looked up, I was even more impressed with exactly how its branches looked so high as well as far away. The tree stands victoriously on a cliff, which offers a stunning view of the sea. There were likewise flowers everywhere, adding appeal to this location as if it wasn’t marvelous enough.

Of all our stops on this tour, the bad Traveler stayed the longest at the Ruins. There was just so much to admire as well as process as well as admire again. It was difficult to believe that this was all that’s left of the when functional, hectic location of belief as well as worship. Every block of the staying walls as well as columns is a memento of its dark, fierce past; it was difficult to take everything in. Yet, the century-old tree that stood there like a giant guardian rising from a blanket of grass. The piles of ruins foster that predominant environment of strength, resilience, as well as hope. as well as the laughter reinforced that; laughter filled the air again. The kids were back, merrily running around, pushing their wheels. when more, I watched them stumble, fall, as well as pick themselves up again.
